A Drop In The Sea Of War

Enter An Age Of Combat Foreword

By Isaac Thomas Riley

The thought of peace, ends with the first volley of war.
Endless in the field of death, the souls of brave now lost.
Heroes to a cause they never knew.

Victims of a war they never understood.
Forged in the hearth of an old man's grudge.
Young men die, and young widows mourn.

Forever repenting a war whose dream was peace.
Forever marching on, the survivors are.
In old age's vengeance.

Victims of a war long past.
Fathers of a war to come.
When the old guard ends, so too a new guard forms.

To carry on in war, the dream of peace.
Forever in flight.
Forged in a hearth of war.

With the blood of men on their hands.
The vengeance of old kindles the fire in the young.
An old man's war is a young man's grave.

The young man's grave is the future of his son.
And the widow is the mother of new widows.
To teach the crucible of war and its price.

On the young and the old, a dream of peace.
Forever in flight.
So long as old grudges remain.

So long as old grudges are forged.
The fires of the hearth remain heated.
And nations will rise and will fall.
Like a tide of blood.
A drop in the sea of war.
A series of haiku I've written for my story Enter An Age of Combat. Be sure to tell me what y'all think!
